How Do We Know

As with any scientific theory, it is not possible to prove that the kinetic molecular theory is the correct way of explaining and understanding the properties of gases on a molecular level. However, the kinetic molecular theory is consistent with experimental measurements. Experiments using this molecular-level model have shown that this theory has significant explanatory and predictive power for the majority of gases at reasonably low pressures and high temperatures.

Why Should We Care

The kinetic molecular theory is a remarkable example of how a simple molecular level model can explain as well as predict a variety of physical phenomena.
